» Artists » Carol Chapman

Carol Bodendieck Chapman was born in Missouri in 1936. She lives and maintains her studio in Carmel California. A cum laude graduate from Smith College Northampton Massachusetts she received her art education from the Kansas City Art Institute and The Art Student's League New York City. She continued her studies while living in Europe for three years where her lifelong affair with impressionism deepened. While strongly influrenced by Renoir Matisse and Hockney impressionism is prevalent in the artist's painterly oil portraits her romantic watercolours and is infused in her strong graphics through use of the lyrical line. Chapman's work because of her excellent understanding and use of light and space translates well into multiple editions. Davis-Blue Artworks Inc. has recently published two almost hard-edge silkscreen images for the Carmel Bay Company while the "other side" of Chapman is revealed in her soft impressionistic still life imagery. A set of six "beach" postcards werw produced by the Centre Pompidou Paris. The light spacious atmosphere of Chapman's Carmen Beach home reflects her personality as well as her art: crisp clean and well defined yet serene and airy awaiting the unexpected.
