Date: This joyful and vibrant canvas has been kindly donated by Keeper of the Royal Academy Schools Maurice Cockrill RA. Mending a Broken Heart was auctioned in October 2010 at Art London with profits going to the BHF. This canvas is prectically bursting at the seams with energy. Its bold composition and palette are typical of Cockrill's recent work. Though the heart is literally represented, the artist introduces a hint of abstraction in the golden lines that criss-cross the heart and spread into the surrounding space. These can be seen as the arteries that keep a heart functioning, their golden tone reflecting the magic of a heart enabled to repair itself. |
