Per Arnoldi

Per Arnoldi was born in 1941 in Copenhagen and after a few years free-lancing as a journalist ballet critic and stage designer he turned full-time to painting and graphics in 1964. Self-taught he has developed a language of clear colourful elements which 'play parts' in the short stories his images portray.Tools props and toys from the world of his old lovers of the theatre and circus tell their own tale where like in the fairy tales of fellow-countryman Hans Christian Andersen they take the place of actors. His bright colours and strictly graphic images have brought him many public commissions and his work is very often seen in railway stations hospitals offices and schools where the energy radiating from the images adds spirit to the surroundings. Many of these commissions have been in the poster field and last year he supplied five posters for New York's Lincoln Centre and is currently finishing three posters for British Rail. Arnoldi has travelled widely and exhibited several times in the USA Australia and on the Continent. His works are to be found in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art New york the Victoria & Albert Museum London the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Neues Museum Munich.
