Richard Spare

Most of Richard?s painting derive from his travels or from aspects of domestic life such as object?s he enjoys having around him. He recently designed a garden in his studio which has proved a rich source of inspiration and a starting point for much of his work. The velvety qualities of his work is achieved by using a drypoint etching technique with the inspiration for the vibrant colours coming from his travels to India and Nepal. Richard has exhibited widely both in the UK and abroad most recently his work has appeared in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. Some of Richards recent prints were drawn while on holiday in Brittany and Devon. Using what was to hand from a water bottle to a pesto jar to keep the flowers fresh. An experienced printer Richard Spare (b.1951) has editioned work for such artists as David Hockney and Howard Hodgkin and has continued to divide his time between working for contemporary artists and a strong commitment to his own work.
