From a series of five silkscreen prints created as a tribute to Robert Rauschenberg, whose work has inspired Peter Blake througout his career, 'Robert Rauschenberg was an enormous influence on me in the mid 1950s. My 'Rauschenbergs' are a very formalised version of his work. I made no attempt to assimilate his beautiful, almost 'Abstract Expressionistic' use of paint. ' Homage to Rauschenberg IV includes book covers, vintage postcards and photographs, a coca-cola material badge, an American flag and a Mickey Mouse board game. |
