PETER BLAKE Print Exhibition at CHAPPELL CONTEMPORARY
CCA Galleries was delighted to attend the opening of Chappell Contemporary Art Gallery’s Peter Blake print exhibition over the weekend.
The gallery will be hosting a show of prints by Peter Blake from the 10th to 18th of June. The summer show is exhibiting a combination of new limited edition releases as well as rarer older prints. The exhibition is showcasing Blake’s use of mixed media and collage and includes limited edition silkscreen prints, with collaged elements, glitter, diamond dust and a stained glass edition.
Over the weekend, the CCA Art Bus made an exciting appearance situated at Whitstable Junior School. The bus is an iconic mobile work of by Blake, and a mobile art gallery. Blake designed the bus in a groovy pop art style, with the aim of creating a rock ‘n’ roll tour bus for art.
Based in the quaint seaside town of Whitstable, Chappell Contemporary opened in early 2015, and is owned by Paula Chappell, who is a Wimbledon School of Art Graduate.
The gallery showcases work by established artists as well as emerging young talent, whose work is exhibited and sold both in the UK and internationally. Specializing in signed limited edition prints, they also offer unique originals by a number of their gallery artists.
owner Paula says:
‘To host this show in Whitstable is
an amazing honour. This will be the biggest event to happen in the gallery and
we are so proud to announce this collaboration with CCA. I believe the show is
important not just for the gallery but for our small town. Whitstable will be
playing host to Britain’s most iconic Pop artist working in the UK today’.
The event was opened on Saturday 10th June with a private drinks reception.
To coincide with the arrival of the
Peter Blake Bus, the children at Whitstable Junior School have given this year’s Summer Fair an art theme.
Stalls will feature work produced by the children and it is intended that much
of this will draw on the inspiration of Peter Blake’s own work (for example,
self-portraits and collage) through in depth activities in school. The school
are also hoping to invite other local artists and craft makers to
host stalls and offer taster sessions for visitors at the Fair.
Throughout the weekend, the school will ran their own art workshops, including making a large scale community collage, in the spirit of the iconic album cover, Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, designed by Blake in 1967.
